The question "are you of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander origin" will be a new routine question
that Service SA staff will ask everyone using the driver licensing and motor vehicle registration services.
Whether you are non-Aboriginal, Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person or both Aboriginal and Torres
Strait Islander, your response is equally important.
The question is only intended to identify Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander customers and will not
be evidence as proof of Aboriginality.
Why we need this information.
This information will be used for road safety statistical analysis only and will not be disclosed to any
other authorities.
Will any other Government agency see this information?
No. The information is held by Department for Infrastructure and Transport and is not shared
with other Government agencies.
Do I have to answer yes or no?
You choose how to answer. Your response will not impact on your application for a learner's permit,
driver's licence or any business with Service SA.
Will my Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander status be displayed on my licence?
No. The information collected will not appear on your SA licence.
